The TRACER Cosmic Ray Detector was launched on a 39 million cubic foot balloon from the Ross Ice Shelf, Antarctica at 7.09pm local time on December 12th 2003. It took 5 hours for the balloon to reach its float altitude of 128,000ft. You can follow the balloon by going to the tracer website
